Beware Space Madness!

According to NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day, there is new information about our galaxy. We’re tangly!

Fascinating.
Just don’t think about it too long.

So last week, we had a heat wave. It was a tiny two-day heat wave, but it was hot — up in the nineties, which is 20 or 30 degrees above normal for May in Seattle.
People on the campus complained that the buildings were too hot. Evidently someone with some clout was one of the complainers, because physical plant decided to turn off the campus steam heating system completely. For the summer. And now, of course, the temperatures are down to the mid-fifties, which is not much chillier than normal. AND WE HAVE NO HEAT.
And they won’t turn it back on.
It is infuriating.
Here is a picture of me and my co-workers:
Yesterday I wore two big wool sweaters. This morning I only have one, so I’ve been huddling with this radiant-panel space heater thing.
Time for another cup of tea.
(Except for my mom, and her mom, and my dad’s mom, and my sisters, and M’s mom, and M’s mom’s mom, and all the other moms I know personally and love dearly.)
“My mom was just like, ‘We should put a ramp in my front yard,'” says her 12-year-old, Emilio, who’s been skating for three years. “It wasn’t even our idea!”

Thanks to M. for sending that link along. While I was looking at the site it’s on (c-rap.com) I ran across a few DRI album covers, and boy did that bring back memories.
Then I got to wondering “what does DRI stand for?” I used to know but couldn’t come up with it & ended up going to google to find out. It’s not Dietary Reference Intakes in this case, nor is it Direct Rendering Interface (nor Infrastructure). Bonus points if you know the real answer off the top of your head!
Hi to Cat! (“Hi, Cat!”)
And Hi! to any of Cat’s lovely friends who have found their way here by her.
Henceforth I shall try to entertain more than just myself.
