rilly rill

Taken at the Oregon coast last July.
Just now I was thinking it looked like a rill. So I looked up rill to see if it fit.

From the OED:

rill, n.1
1. a. A small stream; a brook, runnel, rivulet; spec. A small trickle of water formed temporarily in soil or sand after rain or tidal ebb.

Why do sumptuous and presumptuous have such different meanings?

And, hey! Fido, that classic name for dogs? Has to be the combining form of the Latin word fidelis. Faithful! Of course! Heh. I love it when words make sense.

M. noticed last night that we have our first bloom of the summer on the Passiflora caerulea vine. Woo hoo!

P. caerulea

Edit: omg, I was just looking at some previous posts regarding passion flowers, and noticed that in 2006, the blooming was underway in mid-June! Gee, I knew we were having a slow start this summer but two months’ difference? Crazy!

We’re doing the Oxbow CSA this year! It’s so exciting! Our first box came yesterday, and it was full of beautiful things. As you can see.
YUM.
In fact, there are a number of items that didn’t make it into the picture (I was just doing some prep for dinner and suddenly realized I had to take a picture because it was so lovely) like two big heads of gorgeous lettuce and bunches of spinach and rainbow chard. YUM YUM VEGETABLES!
