Monkeys!
I ran across the following in Wil Wheaton’s Suicide Girls blog, which I ran across after reading his latest feature there.

APRIL 7, 2007 @ 02:52 PMMy wife pointed something out to me earlier this week: every single day, you’ll encounter a monkey reference.
Now that you know about it, you’ll see. Come back here and share, mmkay? No fair using this as your monkey reference, either. You have to encounter it unintentionally and naturally in the course of your day.
Okay go! [ooo aaa]
Fascinating! I’m trying to think if monkeys have already come up today. I was over in the bookstore for a little while earlier — maybe there was a monkey there? There must have been. I can’t remember!
But now I’m on the lookout.

i commented not five minutes ago, that even though kd was speaking to me in her very special brand of monkey-dog language, i could still understand what she was saying. monkeys come up in our lives every single day. many, many times a day.
who flung poo?

Ha ha! You are funny.
After I posted that entry, I was reading a book and there was a reference to the Hindu god Hanuman, who is a monkey god. And so there it was, my daily monkey. Crazy!

Hmm…interesting…I’m gonna try to pay attention. Does this include gorillas and chimps and such, or just strictly monkeys?

Hmmm, I don’t know. I think that would be up to the individual paying the attention. I’m going to try it hardcore, as they say, and not count anything that isn’t the word “monkey.”
But wait! What about images? Hmmm.

I realized I had a monkey reference yesterday, when I was given a stuffed monkey. Then today I saw a picture of a monkey on the cover of a book (Sideways Stories From Wayside School) and heard a reference to a monkey while listening to an audio book (The Prince and the Pauper). So based on two days, this seems totally true. We’ll see how tomorrow goes.

I saw a picture of a monkey in a book today, too. It wasn’t Hanuman, either.
I’m not working the next few days, will probably be at home a lot. We’ll see if the theory holds under those circumstances. Which it might — M. likes monkeys.

Our favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood is called Space Monkey. They used to have t-shirts with Curious George in his astronaut suit on them. So cute! They ran out of the t-shirts and haven’t made any more:( I will be looking for other monkey references, aside from my trips for an iced decaf americano. mmmmmm.

Another monkey reference for the day! We just went shopping at the co-op and they asked to fill out an online survey. The name of the website collecting the survey info??? Surveymonkey hahahha monkey’s are everywhere and I love it!

Hey Erica!
Mmmmmm, iced decaf americano, that’s what I drink too :o)
We also have had a two-monkey day — one in a conversation with K. about an insane taxidermist an another when my nephew mentioned them for some reason (can’t remember at the moment what exactly he was talking about).
And that’s not even counting a gorilla reference! And the day’s not over yet…
